Forest Enterprises is one of the largest forestry businesses in Wairarapa and Gisborne. We currently have over 20,000 hectares of radiata pine forest under management, and in 2017 managed the harvest of over 400,000 tonnes of logs. This is growing.
We manage 35 forests in the Wairarapa consisting of 8,733 hectares – 24 Forest Enterprises investments and 11 private forests.
Harvest is well underway in the Wairarapa and ramps up in 2018 as we bring more of our first rotation investments into the harvest programme. We expect to be producing 375,000 tonnes in 2018, two-thirds going to Wellington’s CentrePort for export and the balance to timber mills in the region.
Approximately half of our total hectares under management is in the Gisborne region on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island. We manage 31 forests over 10,119 hectares – 28 Forest Enterprises investments and three private forests.
In 2017, our Gisborne harvest volume was approximately 210,000 tonnes and this annual volume is expected to triple within four years. Almost all the logs produced from our Gisborne estate are exported through Eastland Port.
With this expanding volume, so too is our Gisborne branch. Under the leadership of Gisborne Regional Manager Dan Fraser, our Gisborne-based team undertakes the full forest management and supervision of our estate in the region.
We manage four forestry investment located in Hawkes Bay, comprising a total of 1,289 hectares. They are our youngest forest investments and their harvest is a few years away from commencement.
The supervision of our Hawkes Bay estate is contracted to PF Olsen.
