Forest Enterprises is pleased to announce that CEO & Forestry Director Bert Hughes was recognised by industry peers for his contribution to the forestry sector, at the Southern North Island Wood Council Awards on Friday 11 May 2018.

This award recognises the performance of an individual who has made a significant contribution to the forestry industry within the Southern North Island region. Nominees will have made a sustained and outstanding contribution to the forest industry or to a specific sector of the industry, through leadership, innovation, advocacy, collaboration or public awareness.

Nominations for this category are confidential to the nominees. Bert’s nomination read:

“Bert has been a key figure in establishing and growing the rail yard at Waingawa for export logs from the Wairarapa adding value to local forest owners. Bert has often been a spokesperson for forestry-related issues in the Wairarapa and beyond, a case in point recently when dealing with the Bideford locals regarding the state of a county road in the area. Bert has also been a key member of the Southern North Island Wood Council board including being the Treasurer. “
